It's important to throw those records out because we wish to keep the Date/Time field from the original record so we can see how long the work order has been at the operation.

I've played around with INSERT but to be honest I haven't a clue as to how to get this done. If I understand you correctly, you want to insert History rows from Current Data unless the Order Number/Current Operation already exists in History.

To add many records to a table at one time, use the INSERT INTO statement along with a SELECT statement.

When you are inserting records from another table, each value being inserted must be compatible with the type of field that will be receiving the data.

I have two tables fname (text) lname (text) balance (money) I want to update the balances from beginning_balances to tbl Emp.

Here's my attempt to recreate the example I was tyring to follow which yeilded zero results although I know that there are exact fname and lname matches: Hi you wonderful helpers who generously give your time away to help the less competent :) I thought this would be an easy task but I'm not an advanced SQL guy and don't know how to use an inner join, which apparently I need to use.

INSERT INTO statements are commonly referred to as append queries.

Current Data is updated every 2 hours with a fresh set of data using a DTS job, removing all of the current records and refreshing the table with a new set of data. However, I'm also interested in marking records which are in my main table but no longer in the 'update' table.Example: Table 'main': 113434, John, Andersson, 9, 2008/12/01 384829, Kevin, Fox, 7, 2008/11/01 Table 'update': 113434, John, Andersson, 9, 2008/12/01 939499, Jane, Lampard, 2, 2008/12/02 Jane Lampard record is new (not existing in my main table) so it should be added. So table2would end up as '2' ,= '3' etc I keep getting stuck as update dosnt seem to let me refer to two tables.Sorry guys I finally worked it out if anyone cares how UPDATE Table2 SET link = (SELECT link FROM table1 WHERE table1= and i found what i wanted here

The UPDATE statement can modify one or more records and generally takes this form: To delete the data that is currently in a table, you use the DELETE statement, which is commonly referred to as a delete query. The DELETE statement can remove one or more records from a table and generally takes this form: The DELETE statement does not remove the table structure—only the data that is currently being held by the table structure.
